What a week! #WeAreBloss

Results - 30/10/2021

Men’s 1 v Stourport 2 – D 2-2
In an even game Bloss started the brighter but found themselves a goal down after around 20 minutes through strong play from the Stourport Striker. Bloss levelled just before half time and had a second ruled out for a foul on the keeper. The second half remained even with Bloss going ahead through a well worked goal which resulted in a tap in for Richard Weaver but with 10 minutes to go Stourport drew level with Bloss's marking leaving a lot to be desired. Bloss did have a chance to win it late on but a goal mouth scramble resulted in a short corner. Man of the Match – Leaky Ben

Men’s 2 v Redditch 2 – W 4-3
Scorers - Owen Mansell x 2, Paul Russell, and Mike Mowat
MoM - Owen Mansell
After breaking numerous land speed records to get to an earlier than anticipated pushback time (Thanks GMS), Bloss got off to flyer against a physical Redditch team, going 2 nil up courtesy of some cool finishing from Owen Mansell and Paul Russell. This was all the more impressive as Bloss were playing with only 10 players at the time. Once up to a full complement of players, Bloss went into halftime 3-1 after the ageless Mike Mowat finished off a swift end to end counterattacking move.
In the 2nd half, Bloss started off strongly and added a fourth goal through Owen Mansell. Redditch mounted a late comeback with two quick goals in the final quarter of the game, but Bloss held strong to record three wins in a row and march on up the table ??

Men’s 3 v Olton & West Warwickshire 6 – W 4-1
A good game between old rivals, Bloss took an early lead and were 2-0 up at half time. Scored another early 2nd half with Olton managing to pull one back but secured the win with a 4th goal. Scorers Andy Rice & Harvey Satterthwaite with 2 each, no cards Tom Bonnell MoM

Men’s 4 v Market Harborough 3 – L 12-0
The opposition were a mix of very good, experienced players and several younger players who were capable of dribbling past several players. They played a sensible mix of a good passing game and taking us on when needed. The result was never in doubt. There was a wide gulf in the overall ability of the 2 teams.

Ladies’ 1 v Tamworth 1 – W1-0
Bloss were attacking from the start and were rewarded with a goal mid-way through the first half from Sara Webber. In the second half Bloss found themselves defending a lot more but hung on to the win, in large part due to player of the match Ollie Rogers.

Ladies’ 2 v Atherstone Adders 1 – L 3-0
Bloss started well but never truly got into their stride throughout the match. Following Atherstone’s first goal, Blossomfield looked under pressure and their usual passing game deserted making it difficult to retain possession. 1-0 down at half time, Blossomfield started the second half in a more organised way and had a spell of 10 minutes where they were in control of the game. However, the pressure reverted back Atherstone’s way and two own goals sealed the win for the away team.
Player of the match votes were spread with Nat Jones winning by a margin of one vote.

Mixed v Warwick – L 2-0
Another great game for the Mixed team vs Warwick on Sunday which unfortunately ended with a 2-0 loss. Warwick came with a strong side across both the male and female players but Bloss pressed hard. The first half ended with no goals and it was clear either team could sneak a goal in! Warwick came out strong in the second half and managed to get two goals passed Ben and they took the win. Man of the Match goes to Ben.

Junior’s U10 Tournament
Solihull Juniors played their first U10 tournament at the weekend, hosted by Edgebaston. A seven aside round robin competition against Edgbaston, Sills, Sikh Union and Leamington. It was their first ever competition against clubs with prior tournament experience and they performed very well considering. No goals this time but George and Laura came close several times. We came close to scoring at penalty shuffles and managed to save a few shuffles also.
Thanks for the parents for their support, enthusiasm and encouragement to the youngsters during the matches.

Congrats to Oli Horsler!!!
We always knew we had a star at the club but Oli has done superbly well and has been selected to attend the South Midlands Performance Centre for U15 boys. Well done Oli!
